from Orpheus' Needle

All we have left to do
rearrange the pyramids, seduce the sources
find the song inside the mountain
to score it on the head of a pin
like Orpheus, secrete the needle and thread
as a lion, write a resurrection on demand
in a lighthouse a drummer crouches
his hands are throbbing—a hieroglyph of time
tuning out the rhythms he goes along
time is a medium and must endure us
a child may put out a fire with his tongue
a fire of glass or a fire of shadow
a document perhaps is waiting for him
an upshore polis pounds itself inward
mind expels itself just to live within itself
the night is a drummer, an angel with too many hands
let him introduce his media to you
he has wrapped himself as a method around us
I have received myself as him
a moment in which all the tendencies converge
scratch his name beneath my mistakes
“spittle of the stars”
